Spatial Development

The Spatial Development Service provides spatially referenced and consistent geo-information for monitoring of urban structure, urban growth and soil sealing in support of reporting obligations. Products describe the pressure, state and impact of urban land take for integrated spatial planning.

The users of the service are spatial planning departments within regional governments as well as Federal Environment Agencies. In addition, the service caters to the specific information needs of European Commission Services.

Products comprise spatially explicit land cover and land use maps derived from Earth Observation satellite data and downstream products combining EO-derived data with in-situ information (e.g. statistics, zoning data). Outputs are maps, statistics, indicators and scenarios of land take trends and the impact of land consumption.

Spatial Planning Services enrich lump statistics with spatially explicit information thus contribute to improved decision making through better planning information. The detailed, high-quality data guarantees consistency and data comparability on a European level and allows the development beyond observation and monitoring towards the evaluation of policy options.
